Networking
Networking allows you share the Internet , hardware and software
between more than one computer ! There is no need to have 3 printers
for 3 computers on a network because all of your computers can
use one printer, saving you money on unneeded hardware and electricity.
Sharing an internet
connection safely is very important now. Everyone recommends using
a firewall ... but what is it and why do you need one ? A firewall
prevents hackers from coming in to your computer through the internet.
There are two kind of firewalls:
If you want to increase your
productivity and security, networking your computers will give you
the best return on investment.
I can show you how to share
the files that you want with the people you want, and keep the
rest of the system safe and secure! I can make your network harder
to hack into than Bill Gates Computer, and no software firewall
is going to give you that level of protection!
Computer Network Installation
Proper Hardware Instillation
Network wiring
Having your hardware installed
properly is as important as choosing the proper network
environment. About 90% of the time, network difficulties in a
practice can be traced simply to outdated cabling or installation
problems.
Network wiring needs to be
installed by a Certified Network Installer. Do not have an
electrician or phone wiring professional install your network
cables.
Ethernet is designed to use
8-conductor, twisted pair, Category 5 wire, with RJ45 connectors.
Unlike, serial networks, X-ray equipment and fluorescent lights, can
affect your Ethernet network performance and in some instances
hinder communication. All cable installed should be certified for
use with 100 Mb network cards (instead of 10 Mb cards). Have all
your wiring certified at that speed. Wiring is a critical component
of your network. Take the necessary steps to assure the highest
specifications are met for your wiring.
Power supply
As part
of your network installation, ask your electrician for the power
input from electrical outlets at the server. Some buildings have a
less reliable power supply that can cause network problems. Before
you may have had a monitor, server, UPS, and even a printer plugged
into an outlet or circuit. With today’s system, you may have
multiple servers, bigger UPS, switches, routers, monitors, and
printers. Ensure your outlet can handle that type power consumption
before your equipment arrives so it doesn’t trip a breaker or damage
the equipment or existing wiring.
Network cards
You’ll
also need network expansion cards in each of the computers that will
be networked. This card provides the jack to plug your network
wiring into and the interface with your workstation.

can’t emphasize enough how important it is to make the right
